ABOUT ME
Yoga Is a Journey
I have spent most of my adult life embracing the typical American lifestyle. Like so many in our Western culture, I was physically active primarily for the sake of my appearance. I knew that exercise was good for one’s mental health, but it wasn’t until my second year of college that the stress of being a full-time student, coupled with a full-time job, sent me in search of holistic options for managing my anxiety, and difficulty focusing...
I had always felt drawn to yoga, and I enjoyed yoga classes, and the connection I felt there; however, something was missing. I continued my research into Yoga as a practice, its origins, and how it was originally meant to be practiced. I found that the class I was taking was more of a fitness class and less of a yoga class. I started looking for more authentic yoga classes online, and the difference I discovered was shocking, and wonderful! I learned how to ground myself with mindfulness practices, pranayama, and connecting movement to the breath. I learned about honoring my true self, my body, and my connection to the universe. I learned that the more I committed myself to these simple movements and breathing practices, the better I felt.
I found yoga to be so nurturing and healing that I wanted to share what I had discovered, and I decided the best way to do that was to learn to teach yoga myself! I have since become an RYT500. Additionally, I have completed certifications in Prenatal/Postnatal Yoga, Mental Health Aware Yoga, Yin Yoga, Chair Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, QiGong, and I also completed my training as an Usui Ryoho and Holy Fire III Reiki Master/Teacher.
It was through the course of my yoga training that I was introduced to Bhakti Yoga, also known as the Yoga of Devotion, and Nada Yoga, known as the Yoga of Sound. Bhakti, and Nada Yoga are both based on the premise of music and sound as the healer. These two practices were what ultimately made all the difference for me.
Like so many people, I struggled with traditional forms of meditation. Mantra and Sound turned out to be the perfect solution to my meditation challenges. The active meditation of chanting mantra and playing instruments such as drums, gongs, and singing bowls, has been the most healing, soothing, and peaceful complement to my yoga practice.
I believe so strongly in Sound Healing, I have obtained my certification as a Sound Healing Practitioner, and I typically integrate some form of Sound Healing into both my Yoga and Reiki offerings.
I am often asked, “Why do you need so much training?”, and my answer is always the same, “Because Yoga is for Every-Body!” It is my mission to ease the suffering of as many people as I possibly can, and different people have different needs. Village Yoga by Paige Brooks will continue to grow and evolve to meet our students and clients right where they are today, and gently guide them on their journey…Because Yoga is for EVERY-BODY!!!
